“Saawariya” opens the Indian film festival in New York

Sanjay Leela Bhansali's film "Saawariya" opened the five-day South Asian film festival in New York yesterday (8th november). The Film Festival, organised by the Indo-American Arts Council offered a warm welcome to the actors and directors. Some of the notable actors include Mira Nair, Milind Soman and Konkona Sen Sharma. This film festival is claimed to be one of the biggest film festivals of South Asia films outside India. The event is scheduled to showcase over 50 Independent and diaspora films in its five days.

On the closing night of the festival the awards for best film, best director, best actor and actress will be announced. The films that are nominated for the best film category include "Valley of Flowers" directed by Pan Nalin, "Via Darjeeling" directed by Arindam Nandy and "Manorama Six Feet Under" by Navdeep Singh. Rituparno Ghosh for "Dosar" and Buddhadeb Dasgupta for "The Voyeurs" are the nominees for best director.

Milind Soman for "Valley of Flowers", Kay Kay for "Via Darjeeling" and Danny Denzongpa for "Frozen" are the nominees for best actors. Best actress nominees include Konkona Sen Sharma for "Dosar" and Raima Sen for "Manorama Six Feet Under." Directors Rituparno Ghosh, Buddhadeb Das Gupta and authors Salman Rushdie and Shashi Tharoor are among the ones that are expected to attend the closing night ceremony.

How did you feel as you are going to work in your debut movie and for big screen?

Well, I am feeling good, because to fulfill my dreams I have worked very hard. At the same time I was very nervous & tensed on the stage specially when I was in front of programme judges Madhur Bhandarkar, Anupam Kher and Pooja Bhatt but after few days everything went perfect.

Tell us the name of the Film in which you are working?

Film name is 'Pyar Hai To Kehdo Yes' in this Zee Tele films my heroine will be Sabina, Sabina also winner of this talent hunt .This is youngster's movie with lot of Fun, Comedy & Action and I am sure audience will like this movie.
We heard that 'Provogue' company has also signed you for ramp modeling?

Yes, 'Provogue' has signed me for Ramp Modeling. I am very happy that I am working with Provogue and now what ever fashion shows will be organized by Provogue; I will be a part of them.
This is your first Movie but, what kind of role do you want to play in future?

I think love stories will suit me more and apart from this I would like to do 'Hum Tum' character played by Saif Ali.

So tell us who is your favorite heroine and with whom do u wants to make your pair in movies?

Preeti Zinta is my favorite heroine and I want to make my pair with her on Big Screen.
Who's your favorite Actor?

Shah Rukh Khan and Saif Ali khan are my favorite actors and I am very much inspired with their acting.
Among all three Judges who is your favorite Judge?

In set both Pooja and Anupam both Judges teach us about the acting, among all three Judges Pooja Bhatt is my favorite because she was the only one who take cares of us and she shouts also but at the time when we performed good then she also encourage us.

Aiming to cut the clutter in the celebrity-endorsed premium segment of mobile phones, Nokia has unveiled a campaign with actress Priyanka Chopra to announce the launch of its new models: 3600 Slide and 7610 Supernova.

The campaign is part of Wieden & Kennedy's global "Girl Uninterrupted" rollout for Nokia.

Built around the creative concept of "It's not just a phone…it is who we are", the film opens with Priyanka waking up in the morning with an alarm on her stylish Nokia phone and going through the day's activities such as scheduling her appointments, sharing her highs and lows and even touching up her make-up on the mirror-finish of the Nokia phone. The spot ends with Priyanka turning in for the day, happy after receving an SMS from someone special.

"Originally, the concept revolved around the hectic life of an everyday girl but getting a hand waving Miss World gave us the opportunity to show her in a new, more real, more human light," said Nusrat Madraswala, account planner (Nokia), W+K, adding, "This campaign hopes to offer the public a glimpse of what they don't see in any of Priyanka's recent posters or song promotions – the real her. Everyone knows Priyanka the superstar, the pageant queen. In this film you see another aspect of her-- that at some level, she's just another working Joe."

"The target audience is young, stylish people who live busy lives; whose lives are integrated with their phones in some sense and also those who see the phone as an accessory and thus an extension of their personal image," Madraswala further added.
