Bollywood star Sanjay Dutt and wife Manyata have filed an application to withdraw their marriage.
The marriage registered under Goa law finally stands cancelled. The couple that had been constantly in news over the procedure and the documents submitted at the time of marriage filed a joint declaration before the Salcete Sub-Registrar stating they do not desire to honor their marriage under the Portuguese Civil Code, 1867.
The duo apparently wanted to register their marriage under the Special Marriage Act, 1954 but was not informed at the time of marriage that the specific act was not extended to Goa. The declaration made by the two read:
"We make this joint declaration, declaring that we hereby revoke and withdraw our declaration of marriage. We also declare that documents annexed therewith be treated as withdrawn and cancelled from all legal effect. This joint declaration statement is being made voluntarily out of our free will and without any coercion to be presented before the Civil-cum-Sub Registrar."
Though the marriage stands cancelled for now, sources told Zee News that the couple has intentions to register the marriage under Special Marriage Act, 1954 and would try to solemnise their marriage from another state.
